Source: Own concortion

Make: 2 cups

1 fully ripen avocado

400 ml fresh milk

Honey to taste

Kitchen tools:

  1. Wash avocado. Slice it lengthwise all the way around to the pit. Then gently twist each side in an opposite direction to separate halves. The pit should remain in one side. Slip a large spoon in between the skin and the meat and scoop out the tender flesh.
  2. Mash with a fork.
  3. MixΒ half of the milk with the avocado puree and press it through a sieve.
  4. Add the remaining milk to theΒ drink.
  5. Whisk the drink lightly until well combined.
  6. Add honey to taste.
  7. The drink is ready now! It can be served warm or cold.

You can replace honey with condensed milk. Other alternatives will be brown sugar or gula melaka (coconut syrup). It can be sugar-free too.

Hey, I love this post!! Reminded me of my “rotten” avocado I got for my sushi rolls a while back … Thanks a lot. Was really helpful!

  2. I used to make this but my kids hated it. I end up using loads of maple syrup to go along. Tried making my sis’s recipe with coffee powder, condense milk and gula melaka, and instead of mashing it, I just dump everything into the blender. My kids are drinking it and they love it.

Blessedhomemaker: I’m lazy to clean my blender so I used the sieve to puree the avocado. Hehehe! Tks for sharing such a wonderful idea! Unfortunately coffee powder is not suitable for my son now. But I will definitely try it for my hubby and myself. πŸ˜‰

Never have I tried avocado drink before!! I need to do this and taste it!

  5. tigerfish says:

I only started to like avocado recently. Initially, I could not get used to it cos it is too “oily” to me as a fruit. But now, I am ok.

    • food-4tots says:

Tigerfish: Sometimes the method used plays an important role to convince a person to accept certain food. My hubby doesn’t like avocado spread but loves avocado drink very much. πŸ˜‰

  6. Alice says:

This looks so creamy and yummy! It is a must-try drink!

  7. Aggie says:

oh this post really brings up a funny memory for me! my bro was very excited abt an avocado drink he had heard abt from his indonesian course mate. its a mixture of avocado, milo and condensed milk. so he tried to make his own version and end up… he also didnt like it! i think he made it too thick so it tasted really odd.
perhaps you can try adding the milo & condensed milk combination?

    • food-4tots says:

Lingzie: As what I know, Indonesian likes to make sweet avocado drink. But your milo and condensed milk combination sounds interesting to me. Do you have the ratio for these ingredients? Otherwise, I will end up with a version like your brother. LOL!

  10. I grew up with shaken avocado beverage. When I came to Canada. I tried guacamole for the first time and felt funny since I was used to the Indonesian sweet version, not the savoury one. My fave is to make avocado shake with coffee and condensed milk and topped with chocolate sprinkle; or mixed with chocolate condensed milk that I haven’t found for purchase in Canada.

    • food-4tots says:

Pepy @ Indonesia Eats: I hope one day I will have a chance to try the authentic Indonesian avocado beverage as mentioned by you. It sounds really interesting! πŸ˜‰

Agreed! Avocado is a very nutritious fruits. They’re sold quite pricy here. They taste surprisingly good with mangoes. Love the idea of this drink. It’s really good to train your son to eat healthy food since young!

    • food-4tots says:

Tracie Moo: It’s also quite pricey over here. S$1.50 per fruit but sometimes there are some good bargains from the supermarket. I will try your avocado with mango combination in my next attempt. Actually, it also gives my hubby and I a change to eat healthy now. πŸ˜‰

Very interesting, LK. I love avocado, but it wasn’t until my adult years. Now, I use it A LOT…in salads and definitely in sushi. But making a milkshake out of it never ever occurred to me. Will need to check this out. The picture is stunning!

    • food-4tots says:

Amy: Like you, I just discoverred the beauty of this fruit when I was working. It will be great if more ppl can enjoy this fruit in future. Will try to use it for salad and guacamole in my next attempt. Tks a lot for your wonderful compliment! πŸ˜‰

  23. Your son is quite adventurous with food, isn’t he? Good for him, and you too! I only grew to love avocado in my adult years. I love it with gula melaka. Quite a sinful drink, but since it’s not everyday, why not?! πŸ™‚ Great shots. Like the one with the fork.

    • food-4tots says:

The Little Teochew: Yes, I must say that it’s because he is trained to try a variety of food since he was small. I must try it with gula melaka one day. Sounds interesting. Tks for your compliment. πŸ˜‰

  24. Ching says:

i just finished drinking this avocado drink. I dont like the taste of Avocado but adding Coffee powder, sugar, honey and milk hides the avocado and then i was able to eat this nutritious fruit. This is an accomplishment for me today, Yaaaay. i hope i like Avocado more and more. I am from Saudi Arabia and Avocado was one of my 1st weaning food for my 8 months baby boy.
Thanks all for the good idea.

  29. Mei Ling says:

My girl loves avocado milkshake. My version: avocado + banana + milk.

  30. feroza says:

i always make avocado milkshake.i use 2avos 1lmilk sugar to taste.put into ablender .my family just loves it. i would like to freeze the avos .wondering if you put lemon or vinegar and you want to make milkshake. how will it taste with the lemon or vinegar. hope to hear from you soon .thanks

    • food-4tots says:

Feroza: What a co-incidence! Avocado milkshake is my family’s favourite too. As the amount of lemon juice is very minimum, the lemon taste is not very prominent when you make the milkshake. However, I’m not sure about vinegar as I haven’t tried it before. πŸ˜‰

  31. 9z4cda says:

  32. juv says:

i love cold and creamy avocado milkshake. i used organic soy milk, instead of regular milk.
