I love eating Chinese steamed buns (pau) as much as I love making them. Making pau is a lot easier and quicker than baking bread. I can even knead it by hand. But, I must confess that mastering the skill is not easy. After spending months in making pau, I still couldn’t get a batch of completely “wrinkle-free” pau, no matter how much care and attention I put into kneading, proofing and steaming...

Almond cookies are one of the popular Chinese New Year (CNY) cookies. They also happen to be my family’s favourite.
These almond cookies are healthier and lighter than the usual butter and sugar loaded cookies. They are butter-free, shortening-free, milk-free and egg-free (if you skip the egg wash). Not only healthy, they are absolutely delicious, crumbly, nutty and less sweet.
I...

For the past one year, I have been trying out numerous steamed cheese cupcakes recipes. However, all ended up in disappointment. The cupcakes shrunk after cooling down and the texture was dense. Surprisingly, my son didn’t mind it at all. He said the taste was good. He ate most of my failed cupcakes as a way of showing his appreciation for my efforts. How wonderful to have such a loyal supporter!!
Despite...

Last week, my son’s school celebrated Children’s Day. His teacher asked her students to bring some healthy food to share on that day. So, my son asked me whether I could bake something for his classmates, but it had to be eggless as some of them are on a vegetarian diet.
To fulfil this “once-a-year” request (as claimed by my son, which of course is not entirely true), I had baked 2 types...

Chocolate is my son’s best friend. Whatever I baked that has chocolate in it will definitely please him more than anything else. However, I don’t bake with chocolate that often as I don’t want to over-indulge him with it.
These double chocolate muffins are something that my son has been looking forward to all these while. As his final exam was just over recently, I thought it would be a...

If you don’t have an oven but plan to make a simple snack for your kid, what could you make? My answer is definitely PANCAKE! With just a few ingredients and some simple cooking equipment, a batch of homemade pancakes will be ready in no time.
There are lots of methods in making pancakes. Each method has its own uniqueness. Interestingly, even for the same recipe, a slight change will yield...

My family is a great fan of granola. Since making my first granola one year ago, I have stopped buying granola from the supermarket. This is because it is healthier, more nutritious and delicious. It also gives me more savings too.
Making your own granola is a breeze. It also allows you to take full control over the selection of ingredients and the amount of sweeteners to be used. You can...

Tamago Boro (also known as egg biscuits, (蛋果子 or 小馒头)) is a very popular snack among kids. You can find them in supermarkets, Japanese specialty stores or local snack shops. My son had never tasted them before. So, he was very excited when he knew that I was going to make them for him.
I have made these Tamago Boro successfully based on a recipe I have adapted and modified from 『君之』的手工烘焙坊....

These mini buns are made from a basic sweet dough recipe originated from Vinnie Baking Paradise. This recipe has been very popular among the local food bloggers. It uses sponge dough method which has many similarities with the 17-hour sponge dough method I shared previously.
Sponge dough method has always been my preferred method in bread making as compared to direct method for two simple reasons...

Two weeks ago, my beloved, 4-year old oven suddenly quited on me. This has totally upset my Chinese New Year (CNY) baking schedule. I have bought a new oven subsequently but I am still adapting myself to its new features, baking time and temperature.
Seaweed crackers are one snack that I’m very tempted to make for this CNY. However, all of the online seaweed crackers recipes are deep-fried which...
