Minced fish with tofu (鱼蓉豆腐羹)

P7259455-copy

Fish and tofu (beancurd) are great source of protein. What will you do if you have both in your fridge? I would have recommended steaming them as it is the easiest and healthiest way of cooking. But what if you or your family members are bored with the usual steamed food? The recipe I am sharing today may just be the alternative solution for you. It gives an interesting twist in the cooking method compared to the common steaming method.

This recipe only requires some very basic seasonings and ingredients which you can easily find in your kitchen. Besides being easy-to-make, it can be done super fast. From preparation to cooking, you can come out with a delicious yet nutritious dish for the entire family in less than half an hour. It can also be turned into a one-dish meal by adding some green peas to it. It goes well with rice. Doesn’t that sound great on days when you don’t feel like spending too much time in cooking?

If you are looking for a kid-friendly dish, this is definitely a good one to try it out!

Thanks for sharing this easy recipe. But I would probably omit the pan-frying of fish and tofu all together.

Ching: If you use the whole fish ie grouper haddock, how do you mince the fish flesh without pan-frying? Just wonder. 😉

How abt using the frozen sutchi fillets avail at major supermkts? They cook easy and if u realli want minced fish, u can always steam the fillets first, and break it up.

Also i wld add some chinese wolfberries to spice up the colors and increase the nutritional value.

This is a nice dish of tofu. At home, instead of minced fish, my mom uses minced pork 🙂

This dish reminds me of my childhood in Shanghai. I LOVED soft tofu dishes whether it had ground pork, shrimp or fish in it or all of them! 🙂

Okay, see…this is a recipe that I would love, but would not go over well with my husband or kids. SO, it goes in the stack of “must make when nobody is home.” Looks so good.

  8. Ohh… Tofu..my favorite ingredient. Must give it a try as it looks really delicious! Thanks for sharing!

oooo tofu! i love tofu! this looks interesting. i wouldn’t think of pairing fish meat with tofu (for fear of fishy smell) so must get really fresh fish! 🙂

This is just like the way my mom cook for me last time when in hurry. Simple yet delicious. My mom use mackerel (Fish to make yong tau fu) to cook it usually. Feel more bouncy.

This looks so healthy, wholesome and delicious 🙂

  17. Very nice! It’s so home-styled and Asian. And best of all, easy to eat (for kids of all ages).

  18. Christine says:

This will be great for the kids, although I have found lately that fish has become quite expensive to have more than once a week, especially if you want fresh fish. We can get frozen fish but it’s just not the same, always comes out “watery” and even has a smell. Is it just me?

    • food-4tots says:

Christine: I also noticed that price for fish is going up lately. We are still considered lucky to get fresh and reasonable fish over here. Haven’t faced your problem before. 😉

  19. Sounds like a quick and delicious dish! Spring onions and coriander leaves are the perfect accents.

  20. Dora says:

Got fishy smell? Maybe can add ginger too?

    • food-4tots says:

Dora: Besides pan-frying the fish, both seasonings and fresh herbs (spring onions and coriander) also helps in getting rid of the fishy smell and adding flavour to the fish too. Do give it try! 😉
