Salmon cakes – Featured recipe for My Cooking Hut

Ever since I was a child, I perceive and express better through pictures instead of words. In scientific term, I am a right brain person. (No wonder I did badly in written essay in my school years. ) Now, whenever I search for recipes online, I am easily sold by impressive-looking photos. They motivate me to try the recipes out as soon as I can lay my hands on the ingredients. If you love to see beautiful photos as much as I do, then you should take a peep at the photo gallery of My Cooking Hut. It is one of those fabulous food blogs I am really hooked on. Every shot taken by Lee Mei, who is a freelance photographer, is awesome and of professional-quality. With excellent food styling skills and perfect propping, she set the right mood and theme for her readers. Every time I visit her blog, I love to admire her photo shots, more as a piece of fine art than just a normal food photo. It gives me lots of inspiration, tips and ideas in food photography. Apart from photography, she is also a very talented cook. You can find a variety of Eastern and Western cuisines featured in her blog that ranges from Asian stir-frying dishes to French delicate dessert. Her blog is my main reference for simple yet delicious recipes.

When Lee Mei wrote to me to ask if I am interested to be her guest writer, I was awe and surprised . I started scratching my head as what to feature on her beautiful blog. After some discussions, we decided on salmon cakes with an Asian twist. Today, I feel so honoured to be the guest writer for My Cooking Hut. Without further delay, let me bring you over to visit Lee Mei’s nicely decorated “hut” and savour my salmon cakes virtually with just a click here.

I’m a right brain person too…I can remember patterns rather than numbers.

By the way, the Salmon cake looks so yummy. I don’t quite like Salmon, but I still can substitute it with other type of fish, right?

I did the brain test and the result I’m 50-50 of the brain, hehehe…

But seriously, I prefer to see more beautiful food pictures to the writing stuff when it comes to food blogs.

The salmon cakes look cute 🙂

    Pearl: See you there!

Little Inbox: *High5 2 U*. I guess it is no harm to substitute it with other type of fish. But for your case, I strongly suggest that you give salmon a try as you will taste the strong salmon flavour with this combi. 😉

Selba: Congrats! You are using both sides equally. Tks for your nice comments.

Dora: Even though I dun have any on hand, I am always happy to some more for you if you like. 😉

ICook4Fun: Tks!!! Your photos are great too!

    BOT: SURE!!! SURE!!!

BBO: Oh! Me too! So that I can take a peep at your baking session! Hehehe!

Juhuacha: You can easily find it either frm supermarket or wet market. For wet market, the Malay stall will definitely have it.

  19. food-4tots says:

Zuzu: I have not tried it before. But I guess it is feasible since there are so many similar frozen products in the supermarket. Maybe u can consider to include 2 extra points: (a) make the cakes flatter; (b)when u take it out from the freeze, do not thaw it. Pan-fry it immediately to maintain its crunchiness. Do share with me the results. 🙂

  20. Criz Lai says:

You have done real well in your food blog too. 🙂 At least your have a right brain.. haha. Well, I can be real brainless most of the time, especially what to cook for dinner. In the end… chop suey!! All dump in a pot, stir and serve 😛

  21. Mei Ling says:

May I know where I can buy panko crumbs?

    • food-4tots says:

Mei Ling: It is available in all supermarkets (eg NTUC, Cold Storage etc). You will likely find it at the same section with normal breadcrumbs or under Japanese food section. Hope it helps. 😉

  22. Mei Ling says:

Thanks. I managed to buy panko crumbs from NTUC. Didn’t know supermarket sells bread crumbs. I bought bread crumbs from Four Leaves previously.

Are coriander leaves commonly used in cooking? I am considering if I should buy it just for this recipe.

    • food-4tots says:

Mei Ling: It’s great! Now you can make the salmon cakes now. I used to buy breadcrumbs from FL too but had stopped after I learned to make my own. Coriander leaves are popular in Chinese and Indian cuisine. I suggest that you get some to try out this recipe as it is quite cheap after all. You can also buy small quantities from the wet market. 😉
