RECIPE FOR LEMONGRASS PANDAN DRINK
Ingredients:
4-5 stalks lemongrass (depending on the size)
6-8 pandan (screwpine) leaves (depending on the size)
1 litre water
Rock sugars (to taste)Methods:
- For lemongrass, discard the outer layer and cut off both ends (about 1/2cm). But, you may use more of the white part as the green part can cause the drink a bit of bitterness. Pound the bulb end of the stalks lightly. Cut into pieces.
- Wash the pandan leaves and tie them in a knot.
- In a pot, add water, pandan leaves and lemongrass. Cover the lid and bring to a boil. Then, lower the heat and allow it to simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add rock sugar to taste. Stir until dissolved.
- Turn off the heat and strain the drink. Served it warm or chilled.
Thanks for the idea! And only 3 ingredients! 😀 Yay.

Lynn: It can be served warm or chilled. So, great for all-year round. 😉
We make this sometimes too! My husband loves lemongrass syrup and we tend to squeeze a little lemon or lime juice in for some freshness. Really good. Thanks for sharing!
Jayne: It’s a great idea to add a bit of lemon or lime. Thanks for sharing. 😉
This is one of my fav drink too! I usually boil it with ginger. Spicy and hot! Yum
Grace: I love your spicy and hot version! Great for me but my son can’t take it. 🙁
How long can i keep in he fridge?
kkgoh: About 1 week. 😉
Hi! Thanks for sharing this great and easy recipe!
I just boiled some but mine turned out with a bitter taste. Any idea where I went wrong? I added in the bulbs (after pounding them lightly), is this correct? Hope you can help so that I can try again.
Thanks in advance.
Cassie: Once you have added the rock sugar, the drink will give you a sweet taste. Did you taste it before adding sugar? How long have you boiled the drink?
I added minimal rock sugar just enough to sweeten the drink. Tasted only after this step… It left with a bitter after taste. Simmered at low heat for 1/2 an hour before adding the rock sugar, with the heat still on. Is this correct?
Thanks!
Cassie: It sounds to me that you have done it correctly. I suspect that the green part could make the drink bitter. Maybe you try to exclude these parts in your next attempt. Do let me know the outcome after trying it out. 😉
Ok, I’ll definitely try brewing this again. I”ll update you of the outcome. Thanks so much for the help!
Hi! I brewed this drink this afternoon and it was a great success! No more bitter taste… Yeah 🙂
Cassie: Great to know that you finally did it! 😉
Definitely a Refreshing drink for our hot weather here.
Josephine Low: Do give it a try! 🙂
Will try thanks for sharing
Jassie: It’s my pleasure to share! 🙂
You know I don’t have a rock sugar because I just saw your drink this morning and it make me excited to do it because I have plant of lemon grass in my backyard never use it ,it’s is ok used brown sugar
Roland amployo: Brown sugar is fine. Alternatively, try cane sugar. Happy trying! 🙂
hi
can i use slow cooker to make this drink ?
thks
Nikki: Yes, you can but it will take slightly longer time. 🙂
Hi, After I peel off the outer layer of the lemongrass stalk, I found white powder on the stalk. Not sure is it pesticide powder or lemongrass powder. Please advise.
Tito: It is difficult to judge based on your description. Normally, the inner part is white in colour. 🙂
Didn’t know pandan goes with lemongrass. Had tried lemongrass and pandan individually. Thank you, i will give it a try of the combine
Kinhip: Hope you will like this combination!:)
Just tried it. It’s good but most important to me, it’s healthy. Thank you
kinhip: Great to know that you love it! 🙂
Wow! Great idea,, i have these in my backyard, gotta plant more.. ^_^
Jasmin: Glad that you like the recipe! 🙂
suitable for children age 4 & 10?
Canny: Yes, they can. 🙂
Can 1yo drink?
Sylvia: Yes but without the sugar version. I would suggest that more water and less lemongrass will be milder for your little one. 🙂
