Fish spinach patties

fish spinach patties

My guest and I got acquainted through a parenting forum 4 years ago. Like me, she also has a son of the same age. We share many common interests and chat online almost everyday with our never-ending topics. It was through her encouragement that I got started on blogging. She is my personal advisor in cooking, baking, and a handy solver for my problems with Adobe Photoshop and highly complicated html code. Though I find her a bit shy, she is definitely a very friendly and generous person. I feel very lucky to have a good friend like her. She has a food blog too. She cooks very well and takes excellent shots even with her point-and-shoot camera.

Do you have any hint who is this mystery woman I’m talking about? She is none other than Ms Alice of Bits of Taste. I am excited and honoured that she is willing to step into my humble kitchen and be my guest. Let’s give her a very BIG and WARM welcome, and enjoy the special dish she had prepared to share with us.

Today, it is an honour for me to be invited by my good friend, LK from FOOD-4TOTS as her guest post. LK places great importance on giving her son and family healthy homecooked food. I am amazed with her ability to explore and experiment with a variety of healthy and delicious toddler’s food. Her recipes come with useful tips and easy to follow steps that even a novice can follow. Her dedication and determination has since inspired me to follow her footsteps.

Last but not least, her blog comes with stunning food photography that makes you drooling. Just can’t keep my eyes staring at those beautiful shots at times.

It took me a while to think of something healthy yet suitable for toddlers to post on her blog. It is indeed a big challenge though. Fish spinach patties came to my mind one weekend when I was about to cook lunch for my son. I love the idea of using fish, vegetables and potato in making patties as a wholesome recipe for toddlers/kids. It’s full of carbohydrate, protein, fibre, vitamins & minerals that a growing child requires. This is also an effective way to coax kids who dislike vegetables to have greens in their diet. Happy trying!

    Hi!

Seems like a great recipe for kids to eat their greens! Am thinking of making this for my son’s party.

Can I make this in adv 2 days b4 the party and only cook it on the day itself?

    Thanks in advance!

  25. Alice says:

Hi Diana, thanks! Great idea to make this for a party!
I would suggest that you prepare the patties one night before, store in the fridge and cook it the next day. That’s what I have done! Good luck and enjoy! 🙂

Saw so many types when I went to the supermarket today…

Btw, love your site. Cooked tuna pasta for my toddler yesterday. He ate FISH 🙂 yay

    • food-4tots says:

Piixie: In fact, all veggies are good for toddlers. Best to pick the fresh ones for trying. Thanks so much for your compliment. Wow! Glad to know that your little tot enjoyed my tuna pasta. Have you tried my salmon cake recipe? 😉

Hi, great recipe indeed! I made it for my boys’s lunch today . I used spring onion instead of spinach and They like it very much! I think I can add some carrot as well for my next attempt. Thank you so much!!

  30. Juliana says:

Hi, I love your Patties recipes. I have not tried it with my son but I’m planning to do it today, the chic patties. Just wondering, is it possible to do a big batch and freeze in the oven? Coz I work on weekdays, so I can only do over the weekends.
My son is 19months old and his transition from porridge to rice and meat has not been good. He spits out most of his food but he can eat nuggets and fries. So I thot that rather than let him eat junk food fr outside, I can give him such patties which are healthier.
Thx. I love your site! I’ve pinned quite a few recipes already!

    • food-4tots says:

Juliana: Thanks for your lovely support. I guess you mean freeze in the fridge and not oven, right? Yes, you can freeze them as you like. Put the patties on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Freeze for 2-3 hours until solid, then transfer to a zip lock bag. Cook them direct from frozen. You may need an extra 30 seconds of cooking time. You can freeze it for 5-6 days. Happy trying! 😉

  31. Newmamma says:

May be a really stupid question, but I am new to cooking! When chopping the fish, it is to be left uncooked right? Should I chop it in the food processor or by hand?

    • food-4tots says:

Newmamma: It’s not a stupid question. Yes, the fish is still raw. Either way is possible. But, I would prefer using knife because it’s faster and easier than using food processor. 😉

Tried these today. I used oats instead of flour, sweet potatoes instead of potatoes, added some ground chai seeds, ground dried onion and garlic, 2 spoon fulls of wheatgerm.

  34. Elaine says:

I used salmon and cooked it before. I also covered them in barley flakes. Added some cayenne pepper too. Super tasty!

  35. Helen says:

Hi, I’ve tried ur recipe today. My end result didn’t look like yours but I will attempt it again to perfect it. I love your blog. 😉

  36. huiqi says:

Is it a must to use self-raising flour? As currently I have plain flour n cake flour so can I replace with cake flour?

    • food-4tots says:

Huiqi: Self-raising flour contains baking powder. If you replace it with cake flour, it may not give the same texture. However, you may still give it a try if you like. 🙂

  37. Abby says:

Hi! I would like to know if you have tried using an oven or toaster oven to cook it or use air fryer? What is the temperature n time to use?

    • food-4tots says:

Abby: Sorry, I haven’t tried making these patties with the methods you have mentioned. If you want to make a fish cake (patties) using oven, you can refer to my salmon fish cakes recipe for more ideas. 🙂
