RECIPE FOR FISH SPINACH PATTIES
Source: Own concortion by Alice of Bits-of-Taste
Ingredients:
300g fish fillet, boneless (I used Sebelah fish fillet)
2 large Russet potatoes
One handful of spinach
2 tbsp self-raising flour
2 tbsp plain flour
1 egg, beatenSeasonings:
1 tsp salt
1 tsp white pepper
Dash of ground black pepper
Dash of dried parsleyMethods:
- Blanch spinach with boiling water and few droplet of sunflower oil. Drain and chopped coarsely.
- Peel potatoes skin, cut into small chunks. Blanch potatoes in a pot of boiling water with dash of salt until soft.
- Drain and mash potatoes immediately while hot with fork or potato masher.
- Chop or mince fish fillet. Combine minced fish fillet, potatoes and spinach in a big mixing bowl.
- Add in beaten egg and mix well.
- Add in flour gradually and combine well. Add in seasonings, mix well.
- Set the mixture aside for 15 mins in room temperature or in the fridge.
- Heat few tablespoons of olive oil on a non-stick frying pan.
- Spoon patties into round or oval shape with 2 spoons (about 1 tablespoon of mixture).
- Pan fry on low fire about 1 – 2 mins. Turn to another side, press the patties a little with a non-stick spatula.
- Pan fry until the patties are golden brown but not over cooked.
- Place patties on kitchen towels to absorb excessive oil.
- Serve while warm.
Note:
- You may use variant of fish fillet, such as salmon, dory, cod or any of your favourite fish fillet. Just to make sure they are boneless.
- You may substitute spinach with fresh basil or fresh coriander leaves.
- You may need to adjust the amount of flour to achieve a consistent batter.
- Always pan fry in low fire to avoid the patties to get burn or over cooked
My pleasure & thank you so much for the invitation! 🙂

Hi!
Seems like a great recipe for kids to eat their greens! Am thinking of making this for my son’s party.
Can I make this in adv 2 days b4 the party and only cook it on the day itself?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Diana, thanks! Great idea to make this for a party!
I would suggest that you prepare the patties one night before, store in the fridge and cook it the next day. That’s what I have done! Good luck and enjoy! 🙂
Hi,
Which type of spinach is good for toddlers?
Saw so many types when I went to the supermarket today…
Btw, love your site. Cooked tuna pasta for my toddler yesterday. He ate FISH 🙂 yay
Piixie: In fact, all veggies are good for toddlers. Best to pick the fresh ones for trying. Thanks so much for your compliment. Wow! Glad to know that your little tot enjoyed my tuna pasta. Have you tried my salmon cake recipe? 😉
hey just wanted to say thanks for these great recipes! havent given them a try yet but planning to make these fish spinach patties today for my 2yo 🙂
Mrswiseso: It’s my pleasure to share. Hope your little tot loves these patties! 😉
GoOod morning! Can u please advise on another way of preparing spinach for my toddler? Thank u :))
TK: Good morning to you! My usual way of preparing Chinese spinach is by blanching method. You can follow the steps here: https://food-4tots.com/2008/11/26/broccoli-how-to-blanch/. Hope it helps! 😉
Hi, great recipe indeed! I made it for my boys’s lunch today . I used spring onion instead of spinach and They like it very much! I think I can add some carrot as well for my next attempt. Thank you so much!!
Ice: Thanks for your kind feedback!! Glad it suits your little boy’s palate! 😉
Hi, I love your Patties recipes. I have not tried it with my son but I’m planning to do it today, the chic patties. Just wondering, is it possible to do a big batch and freeze in the oven? Coz I work on weekdays, so I can only do over the weekends.
My son is 19months old and his transition from porridge to rice and meat has not been good. He spits out most of his food but he can eat nuggets and fries. So I thot that rather than let him eat junk food fr outside, I can give him such patties which are healthier.
Thx. I love your site! I’ve pinned quite a few recipes already!
Juliana: Thanks for your lovely support. I guess you mean freeze in the fridge and not oven, right? Yes, you can freeze them as you like. Put the patties on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Freeze for 2-3 hours until solid, then transfer to a zip lock bag. Cook them direct from frozen. You may need an extra 30 seconds of cooking time. You can freeze it for 5-6 days. Happy trying! 😉
May be a really stupid question, but I am new to cooking! When chopping the fish, it is to be left uncooked right? Should I chop it in the food processor or by hand?
Newmamma: It’s not a stupid question. Yes, the fish is still raw. Either way is possible. But, I would prefer using knife because it’s faster and easier than using food processor. 😉

Tried these today. I used oats instead of flour, sweet potatoes instead of potatoes, added some ground chai seeds, ground dried onion and garlic, 2 spoon fulls of wheatgerm.
Elaine: Thanks for sharing your healthy version!! Love to try it out one day! 😉
I used salmon and cooked it before. I also covered them in barley flakes. Added some cayenne pepper too. Super tasty!
Elaine: Wow! Super healthy and yummy! Thanks for sharing. 😉
Hi, I’ve tried ur recipe today. My end result didn’t look like yours but I will attempt it again to perfect it. I love your blog. 😉
Helen: Thank you for the feedback. Practice makes perfect. I’m sure you will succeed in your 2nd attempt. Thanks for loving my blog! 😉
Is it a must to use self-raising flour? As currently I have plain flour n cake flour so can I replace with cake flour?
Huiqi: Self-raising flour contains baking powder. If you replace it with cake flour, it may not give the same texture. However, you may still give it a try if you like. 🙂
Hi! I would like to know if you have tried using an oven or toaster oven to cook it or use air fryer? What is the temperature n time to use?
Abby: Sorry, I haven’t tried making these patties with the methods you have mentioned. If you want to make a fish cake (patties) using oven, you can refer to my salmon fish cakes recipe for more ideas. 🙂
